Tell about your love story!
How did you meet? What makes your mate a perfect match? How was the question popped?
Me and Harold attended school together until the 8th grade when my family moved to Houston, TX. We were always nice and polite to each other but nothing more existed between us. We became friends on Facebook in 2010 and spoke maybe a couple of times a year. It was in 2011 that we began to talk regularly. 2012 resulted in several meetings in person and we really fell for each other. The following year in 2013 we officially became a couple and have been together ever since. It has been a dream come true for me. They say that you get one true shot at love and I am glad that I have found it.
Describe your wedding planning process.
This stage was challenging because we chose to move forward without a wedding planner. We first settled on a budget. Then we began researching venues in the area. After visiting several highly recommended and rated places, we chose The Piazza in the Village. The next step for us was choosing our colors which were royal blue and silver. The venue provided food and beverage for the wedding which was a huge plus. We chose Simply Elegant as our florist and Cindy Horseman provided beautiful music for our ceremony with her harp. Melissa J Beauty did a wonderful job with our hair and makeup.
To finish things off, Delicious Cakes did what they do best and that was to provide timely service and deliver a great product. DJ T-Rock provided music for our reception and also helped us to pace the evening just as we had planned. I'd like to thank Brianna Dickson again for capturing so many memorable moments throughout the evening in such a joyful way. Everyone in attendance thought she was awesome.
Recap your big day for us.
What made you laugh? What made you cry? What were the most memorable moments? What unexpected things happened that weren't planned for?
In hindsight, I laugh at just how nervous I was about making sure everything went as we had planned. Would everyone make it to the venue on time? Would they bring everything that they needed? The flower girl got stage fright and dropped all of her flowers before proceeding down the isle which everyone thought was funny. The most memorable moment of the day was when the doors finally opened and I saw my future husband waiting at the altar for me. All in all, things went great and how we had planned them.
What about the details?
What was your vision/theme? How did you bring it to life?
My vision was to have an extremely nice and elegant wedding. I didn't focus too much on establishing a theme. The wedding was brought to life by the presence of so many friends and loved ones which helped to make my day so much more memorable.
What's the best advice you can give a bride and groom planning their wedding?
I would advise future couples to hire a wedding planner. Self planning is less costly and an adventure in itself, but having a planner relieves stress allowing you to just focus on truly enjoying the moments leading up to your big day.
What do you look forward to most as Mr. & Mrs.?
We look forward to continuing to grow as one and learn how to make each others lives more complete. I look forward to many years of marriage and expanding our family!
What has surprised you most during the first few weeks of marriage?
Before we were married, I would ask people how marriage makes things different? I thought it would be the same since we were already together for 5 years. I now see that there is a new found level of commitment. The union is now complete and I am very happy about the official nature of our bond. Marriage is a big commitment and going through with it makes me feel complete.
